Puerto Rico is a magnificent island. Its location
couldn't be better. With Airports on both sides of the
Island it is not only an easy and inexpensive
destination it is also the Caribbean's hub for many
other islands. From Puerto Rico you and get almost
anywhere.
Beach diving is accessible, there are many beaches
with live coral and spectacular views. Depth however can
be a challenge while most of the water surrounding the
island can be shallow. If you are looking to vacation
and solely beach dive I don't recommend Puerto Rico
unless you make prior arrangements with a guide.
Locations can be difficult to find and many hours may be
wasted searching for the best spots. Boat
diving around the island is spectacular however.
Numerous
islands surround Puerto Rico and offer some of the best
diving in the Caribbean.
Islands such as Mona, Vieques, Culebra and Desacheyo
attract divers from all four corners of the world. There
are many other destinations within a short flight
as well, St Thomas, St Croix, St Johns and the British
Virgin Islands are less then a 30 minute flight away.
Many
major airlines fly to these spots however I recommend
the sea plane out of San Juan or any of the smaller
charters. Costs are the same and you cant beat the view
and service of a small business.
Puerto Rico itself has many other amazing sites. El
Yunque Rain Forrest, Arrecebo Observatory, Camuy Caves,
and Old Town San Juan are all great locations to explore
while on the surface. Below are a list of links to aid
